AT THE CABRILLO MARINE AQUARIUM:

"Return to the Synthetic Sea"

by

Capt. Charles Moore

Captain Charles Moore researches ocean pollution aboard his especially designed catamaran "Alguita." He made conservation history when he called the world's attention to the pressing problem of plastic debris floating in the North Pacific Ocean in 1999. Moore dedicates his time and resources to understand and remedy the ocean's plastic load. He is the founder of the Algalita Marine Research Foundation, an organization actively engaged in innovative research, education and restoration of the marine environment. Captain Moore will update us on his latest research.

A third generation resident of Long Beach, CA, Captain Charles Moore grew up in and on the Pacific Ocean. His father was an industrial chemist and avid sailor who took young Charles and his siblings sailing to remote locations from Guadalupe Island to Hawaii. He attended the University of California at San Diego, where he majored in Chemistry and Spanish.
