THE AMERICAN CETACEAN SOCIETY/LOS ANGELES CHAPTER INVITES ALL MEMBERS AND WELCOMES THE GENERAL PUBLIC
TO THIS MONTH’S MEETING ON TUES., JANUARY 28, 2003 AT 7:30 P.M.
AT THE CABRILLO MARINE AQUARIUM:

"ACS: Making a Difference for 35 Years"

by

John Olguin

The American Cetacean Society has just celebrated its 35th year or tireless work for the protection of whales, dolphins and porpoises and the protection of all marine habitats. Over the years, ACS has played a vital role in many conservation battles, from helping to bring about the ban on oil drilling off the California coast and the ban on nearshore gillnets to the stopping the saltworks at Laguna San Ignacio.

John Olguin, San Pedro Rotary Club's citizen of the century and founder of the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, is also a charter member of ACS. He will share with us the history of the organization from its beginnings when the founders actually wanted to raise whales as a food source for the needy, to the many perils that still face the whales today. John will be assisted by ACS historian Diana McIntyre, who recently researched ACS's past. Please come and help us honor one of the fathers of ACS.

The Cabrillo Marine Aquarium is located at 3720 Stephen M. White Drive in San Pedro. ACS/LA general meetings are free and are held on the last Tuesday of the month. For an update on the speaker or information about ACS/LA, call (310) 548-8500, or visit our website at www.acs-la.org

Come and meet our speaker in the relaxed surroundings of the Baja Cabana restaurant at our no-host dinner before the meeting. Dinner is at 6 p.m., at 1622 S. Gaffey St. (at 17th St.) in San Pedro. (310) 833-9765.
